What I do

I work with people who want to do something a little scary, exciting or uncertain - with respect to running that is. Where I help is guiding people to safely and confidently take on their challenge. We share a belief in the success of the effort and we are in it together. The majority of the people I coach are stepping up in distance or taking on a real life goal.

My background

I have always been an active guy, finally getting into “proper” running in my late 20s. It was the adventure of trail running that really took hold of me and I fell in love with the challenge of ultrarunning. I have been fortunate to complete in many ultra runs in New Zealand and abroad. My favourites would be gaining a silver buckle at NorthFace 100 in the Blue Mountains, the Tarawera 100 miler in Rotorua (the second time) and the Inca Trail Marathon in Peru (incredible to run along a 600 year old stone trail!).

Career moments

Being completely genuine, every person I have supported in their running journey has provided me a highlight. I have loved work with some really interesting people and seeing them challenge, learn and succeed. Working alongside Team Pacifica in their build up to the New York Marathon was really rewarding, as was seeing individuals seek out challenging new distances as a result of being in a supportive running club.

I have been an ambassador for Lululemon and Tom Tom wearables. While juggling fatherhood I created and delivered a programme to the New Zealand Defence Force to minimise injury rates and improve performance amongst recruit candidates.

Experience and qualifications

I have worked in the fitness industry for over 20 years, specialising in Running and Endurance Coaching for 15 years. Starting in New Zealand, I was able to compete and work in Australia and The Netherlands - coaching, speaking with groups and appearing on podcasts and radio broadcasts. I led the Les Mills Auckland City and Britomart Run Clubs for many years and am now helping CLM The Bays grow their run club.

I have qualifications in Personal and Group Training. My current certifications are in UESCA Ultrarunning Coaching and Endurance Sports Nutrition, as well as being a Level II Lydiard Foundation running coach. I hold REPs (Register of Exercise Professionals) membership in New Zealand.
